We're sitting this one out. The stock has been in a volatile downtrend since late 2025, falling from the $580 area to the mid-$440s on decelerating procedure growth guidance for 2026 (13-15% vs prior 18%). Our own trade history on this name has been painful—mostly small losses on both long and short attempts because it chops around without sustained momentum.

Right now it's trading near $450 after weak sessions on 4/8-4/10, sitting right in the middle of its recent range with earnings just 11 days away (conference call April 21). While analysts largely remain bullish long-term with targets well above current levels and the da Vinci platform still has strong secular tailwinds, the near-term setup is too uncertain. Positive EPS surprises haven't always translated to upside moves, and any miss on procedures or forward commentary could easily trigger another leg down.

Volume has been inconsistent, and there's no strong catalyst to justify fighting the current weakness with real capital. We'll wait for the earnings reaction to pass and look for a cleaner technical setup—either a decisive break above the recent highs with increasing volume for a long, or confirmed breakdown for a short. Cash preserves our ammo for higher-conviction setups instead of gambling on this chop. Risk management comes first after the string of losing ISRG trades.
